Florida baseball ranked No. 7 in Coaches Poll, D1Baseball Top 25 and Perfect Game rankings

The Florida Gators are the consensus No. 7 team across the USA TODAY Sports Baseball Coaches Poll, the D1Baseball Top 25 and Perfect Game College Top 25 through the fourth weekend of play.

The Orange and Blue are the only team in college baseball to land in the same spot in all three lists. However, the Gators got to the No. 7 spot in three different ways across as many polls. The Coaches Poll dropped the Gators a spot, D1Baseball — which is usually the least punishing poll in terms of movement following losses — held UF steady at No. 7 and Perfect Game gave UF a one-spot bump this week.

There are four SEC programs and one in-state program consistently ranked ahead of Florida. LSU and Tennessee are fighting for the top spot, with the Volunteers sitting atop the Coaches Poll and Perfect Game rankings. Arkansas is No. 3 in two of three polls, and Florida State is No. 5 in two of three polls, with Georgia landing in the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots in different polls.

That sixth spot ahead of Florida isn’t so consistent, though. Clemson is No. 4, according to Perfect Game, but drops to No. 6 in the Coaches poll. North Carolina owns the No. 6 spot in the D1Baseball rankings, and Texas (another SEC team) gets the nod from PG.

A midweek loss to UCF appears to be the difference maker in these rankings for Florida. The Gators are the only two-loss team inside the top nine, but Florida has not dropped a weekend series this year. The coming week sees the Gators face the Seminoles in a midweek road game and the Volunteers in the first SEC series of the season. Both programs are undefeated, so a 3-1 week could send Florida into the top 5.
