Coach Prime at CU’s first spring meeting: ‘We have a better team than we had last year’

During Colorado football’s first team meeting of the spring, head coach Deion Sanders told his players that the Buffs are a better team than last year’s squad, which won nine games and reached the Alamo Bowl.

Losing quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and other key contributors obviously stings, but the Buffs do appear improved at several position groups. The offensive line added multiple talented transfers, including Zy Crisler and Aki Ogunbiyi, and former Tulsa wide receiver Joseph Williams landed in Boulder after winning the 2024 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Defensively, Alabama transfer DT Jehiem Oatis and UTSA transfer linebacker Martavius French have also joined the Buffs with high expectations.

Equally as important, Coach Prime added former NFL standouts Marshall Faulk (running backs) and Domata Peko (defensive line) to his staff.

Here’s what Coach Prime told his team regarding spring practice expectations, as documented by Well Off Media:

“We’re going to have an awesome spring,” Sanders told his team (h/t Well Off Media). “We have a better team than we had last year, and we’re going to prove it this spring. We’re going to be so much (more) disciplined. (We were) dead last in penalties last season. We will not have that, and that starts today.”
