Georgia WR Colbie Young is back

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young reached a plea deal in his domestic violence case earlier this offseason. Now, according to head coach Kirby Smart, Young is back.

“Colbie (Young) is with us. He’s cleared,” said Smart in a press conference ahead of Georgia spring practice.

Young’s return provides continuity and depth to the Georgia wide receiver room that features Dillon Bell, Texas A&M transfer Noah Thomas, USC transfer Zachariah Branch and more.

Young’s plea deal meant he could return for another year at UGA, but his eligibility is more complicated than that. Young has played at least five games in four different college football seasons (2024 with Georgia, 2022 and 2023 with Miami and 2021 with Lackawanna College). Technically, Young should be out of eligibility. However, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia recently earned a win against the NCAA that ruled that his junior college season did not count against his eligibility. Young’s year at Lackawanna College could not count against his eligibility if Pavia’s ruling is universally applied across college football.
