Wisconsin tight end medically retires from football

Wisconsin football freshman tight end Rob Booker has medically retired, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood.

The news follows Booker’s exclusion from the Badgers’ newly-released spring roster. Flood also reports that the freshman tight end plans to remain involved with the program in some capacity.

The redshirt freshman tight end signed with Wisconsin in the class of 2024. 247Sports ranked him as the No. 661 player in the class, No. 35 tight end and No. 7 in-state recruit. His recruitment was a bit of a rollercoaster — Booker first committed to Wisconsin on Jan. 31, 2023, before the summer of official visits. He then flipped to UCLA on June 22, the same day he received an offer from the program. Finally, he flipped back to Wisconsin during the early signing period in December, officially joining the Badgers’ class.

Booker did not see the field in 2024 as a true freshman.

Wisconsin enters 2025 with Ball State transfer Tanner Koziol set to lead its tight end room. Junior Tucker Ashcraft will operate as the primary backup, with Jackson Acker also set to contribute. Acker has spent his entire Badger career at running back thus far (79 carries, 360 yards, three touchdowns). He’ll likely contribute as a hybrid TE/FB in Jeff Grimes’ pro-style offense.

The Badgers are set to begin their 2025 spring practice later this week.
