ORLANDO — It’s been some time since UCF’s football program entered a spring camp with this level of mystique.
Scott Frost returned in December and will take over a program that sputtered in its first two seasons as a member of the Big 12 — with a 10-15 overall record and a 5-13 mark versus conference opponents. Frost has not coached a college game since Sept. 10, 2022, one day after Nebraska lost at home to Georgia Southern to fall to 16-31 during his tenure.
Prior to that, Frost and UCF achieved unprecedented levels of success together. The Knights ran the table in 2017, going 13-0 and defeating Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers in the Peach Bowl to cap their “national championship” campaign.

Is it possible to recapture the magic? That’s certainly the biggest question, but one that will have to wait until August at the earliest — and several years down the road, more realistically — for an answer.
Light could be shed on these five questions facing the Knights, however, before all 15 practices conclude.
Who will emerge as UCF’s starting quarterback?

UCF’s four scholarship quarterbacks — Jacurri Brown, Cam Fancher, Tayven Jackson and Dylan Rizk — have combined for 39 college starts behind center. Fancher is the only one to have broken fall camp as his team’s QB1, and he has done it twice — at Marshall in 2023 and Florida Atlantic last year.
