Five-star Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) linebacker recruit Tyler Atkinson is very familiar with the Georgia Bulldogs, having visited the local program on a multitude of occasions.
Georgia is intensifying its efforts to secure the commitment of the nation’s top linebacker, Atkinson, who visited Georgia this week, as confirmed by On3’s Chad Simmons. Although Clemson is making a strong push after a recent visit, Atkinson returned to Athens on Tuesday, following his January visit.
Georgia is well-known leader for Atkinson and many people look at him as a potential future Butkus Award winner for the Bulldogs if he joins the program. Georgia has made Atkinson a top priority throughout his time during high school and needs to land a top an in-state prospect like him.
“The practice environment was full of energy and a passion to practice,” said Atkinson after visiting Georgia to On3 (subscription required). “I spent a lot of time with Coach Kirby on the practice field. He explained a lot of things about the defense and I got some questions answered. That was really good.”
Ranked as the nation’s No. 8 overall recruit by the On3 Industry Rankings, Atkinson is one of the best players in the nation. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker had a dominant junior year. He led Grayson to a 14-1 record and a Georgia AAAAAA state championship, racking up 166 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble.
