Blackford has hired a familiar face as its next head football coach.
The school announced Steve Boozier as the new football coach in a release on Tuesday evening. Boozier previously served as the Bruins head coach from 2000-2008 and led the school to its most recent IHSAA sectional championship in 2003.
“We are thrilled to welcome back Coach Boozier to the Blackford family,” said Blackford athletics director Garry May. “His passion for coaching and commitment to student-athlete success make him a great fit for our program. We are excited for the future of Blackford football under his leadership.”
Boozier returns to East Central Indiana after a season as the head coach at Tri-County North in Ohio, where he was previously the head coach and athletics director for several years. Prior to last season in Ohio, Boozier was with Jay County for 14 years, as the football coach from 2010-12 and as the athletics director from 2013-24.
Boozier is a graduate of Ball State University and holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership (2014) and a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education.
According to the school’s release, “Coach Boozier is eager to begin working with the Bruins and establishing a dynamic program centered on connecting with student-athletes in a trusting and growth-minded relationship, influencing their development both on and off the field, and achieving success through dedication and teamwork.”
Boozier replaces Randy Sehy, who stepped down after nine seasons. Blackford was 2-8 in 2024 and lost its first-round sectional game.
