FSU football coach Mike Norvell addresses the media ahead of spring football

Spring has sprung for Florida State football.

After two months of Tour of Duty and getting to know the newcomers and newly hired coaches on both sides of the ball, the Seminoles will finally step onto the field on Wednesday, as they begin their first day of spring practice.

As Mike Norvell moved on from the 2-10 season last year, he has been proactive in getting his program back on track. He has taken a backseat from playcalling and handing the keys to his new offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn.

On the defensive side, Tony White runs the show as he breaks in his 3-3-5 scheme for the first time on the FSU coaching staff.

With spring practice underway, it will be interesting to see what Norvell has in his new group of players that he brought in the transfer portal and the freshman enrollees.

However, where does that leave the returning players who were part of that losing season?

Now that it’s a new year and a new group, it’s a clean slate, but with the depth of each position group, there will be plenty of competition between now and their final scrimmage.

Here are some returning players to keep an eye on this spring:

Kam Davis, running back

There was a level of expectations that wasn’t met by running back Kam Davis in the first season. The combination of injuries, production numbers, and failed run blocking resulted in Davis only rushing for 173 yards on 52 carries.

As he enters his sophomore year with starting experience under his belt, Davis will be looking to get an opportunity to become the lead back in a crowded…
