Nebraska football offers son of Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten

Nebraska football offered class of 2027 five-star safety Cooper Witten on Wednesday. He made the announcement on social media.

Witten is the top safety in the 2027 class and the fourth-best player in his class from the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His stock continues to rise, as he has 21 scholarship offers.

He reported 45 tackles and a sack in nine games for Liberty Christian High School last season. He also had a nose for the football, as he tallied five interceptions, according to Maxpreps.com.

His last name may sound familiar to some, as he is the son of Dallas Cowboys legend and tight end Jason Witten. The elder Witten is the head coach of Liberty Christian High School, and in the last four seasons, he has gone 38-11 with back-to-back State championships in 2023 and 2024. His son CJ Witten was a three-star linebacker and signed with the Rice Owls in the 2025 class.

Nebraska football currently has no commitments in the 2027 recruiting class. However, they are expected to get some talented recruits on campus in the coming months. Witten would certainly be a major get, and strengthen a Nebraska football defense that is set to have a very bright future.
