Spring ball has officially started for the Wisconsin Badgers, who will resume practices after spring break starting on Tuesday.
When it comes to this offseason, perhaps no position saw more attrition than quarterback, as Tyler Van Dyke, Braedyn Locke, and Mabrey Mettauer all transferred out of the program, while the Badgers brought in Maryland’s Billy Edwards and San Diego State’s Danny O’Neil via the transfer portal.
In addition, they were able to land 2025 four-star recruit Carter Smith, bringing them to three scholarship quarterbacks, with walk-on redshirt freshman Milos Spasojevic rounding out the room.

Starter: Billy Edwards
Backup: Danny O’Neil
Third string: Carter Smith

O’Neil should be the backup to Edwards this season, providing some room for Smith to grow and develop without any expectations before ultimately competing for the starting job in 2026.
A smaller quarterback standing 6’0, 195 pounds, O’Neil does have some size disadvantages, unlike the other two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, but he has some mobility to him,…
