The Oregon Ducks have a lot of talent on their roster going into the 2025 season, but the coaches and players will be quick to tell you that there isn’t much experience or proven production across the depth chart.
That is especially true in the secondary, where the Ducks lost players like Jabbar Muhammad, Dontae Manning, Nikko Reed, Brandon Johnson, Tysheem Johnson, and Kobe Savage to the NFL this year. In their place, a handful of underclassmen and transfers will step in and look to uphold the standard set by the generations of players ahead of them.
One of those players will be cornerback Jahlil Florence, who has the most experience of anyone in the secondary. As a starting cornerback in the 2023 season, Florence was a great player, but an injury near the end of the season derailed the next stretch of his career. Florence sat out the entire 2024 season, and it wasn’t until the lead-up to Oregon’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl that we saw No. 6 on the field and practicing again.
Now that spring football has begun, Florence appears to be back in the mix with the Ducks.
“He’s rolling right now,” co-defensive coordinator Chris Hampton said on Thursday. “He’s trying to get better, you know? Is he exactly where you want to be? No, but nobody is right now. But he’s practicing. He’s not limited in reps. He’s taking every rep. He’s getting better and better each and every day, like he looks better this week than he did before spring break, like a tremendous difference. So I think with confidence and reps, he’s going to get back to the player that he once was.”
