Two teams keeping LSU off the top spot

After a good weekend, LSU baseball is climbing the SEC standings. The Tigers swept Oklahoma on the road thanks to dominant pitching. Ace Kade Anderson threw nine shutout innings on Thursday night and the Tigers only used five pitchers all weekend. That made it easy on head coach Jay Johnson, who only had to deploy two relievers.

Texas baseball was the talk of the SEC this week with a sweep of No. 3 Georgia. The Longhorns now sit at 11-1 in SEC play with the strongest resume in the country. However, Texas isn’t alone at No. 1. The Arkansas Razorbacks are 11-1 too.

In the cellar, we have Missouri, who is still yet to win an SEC game. Something will have to give this weekend as Missouri travels to Florida to face a Gators team with just one SEC win. The loser of that series won’t be feeling good a week from now.

Here are the complete SEC baseball standings after four weeks of conference play.

Where does LSU baseball rank in the SEC this week?

Jay Johnson’s LSU Tigers sit at No. 3 with a 10-2 conference record. LSU is one game back of Texas and Arkansas at No. 1 and firmly in the race to win the regular season conference title.

LSU already dropped its series to Texas, but the Tigers will play Arkansas in May. Texas and Arkansas will also meet later this year. Both of those series will cause separation in the standings, one way or another.

This weekend, LSU plays Auburn. The Tigers on the plains got to .500 in SEC play with a series win over Alabama.
