See where Jonathan Smith ranks in this set of Big Ten coach rankings
My 2025 Big Ten Head Coach Power Rankings.
Power rankings are based on resume and current impact (I.e. How desirable they would be to hire right now).

Would you pick Jonathan Smith or Sherrone Moore to lead your football program? One college football analyst likes Smith over Moore.
College football analyst “CFBudge” released his Big Ten head coach power rankings for the 2025 season and he somewhat surprisingly had Smith listed ahead of Moore. Smith was also listed ahead of Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell — who hasn’t necessarily had success at Wisconsin but did take Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff previously.
Smith came in at No. 10 in the power rankings, which was right behind Illinois’ Bret Bielema and right ahead of Washington’s Jedd Fisch. Michigan’s Moore came in at No. 12 and Wisconsin’s Fickell was No. 14.
The Spartans got off to a fast start under Smith in his first year, opening the season 3-0. However, Michigan State struggled from that point on, finishing the year with only two more wins and missing out on a bowl game for a third straight year. One of those seven losses came at the hands of Moore and the Wolverines in a narrow road rivalry loss.
The top of the rankings were no surprise with Ohio State’s Ryan Day listed at No. 1, Oregon’s Dan Lanning at No. 2 and Penn State’s James Franklin at No. 3. The complete rankings from CFBudge can be found in the post below:
