The 2025 college football season will kick off Saturday with a top 25 matchup.
No. 20 Kansas State will face No. 21 Iowa State in Dublin, Ireland. The season opener is slated for noon EDT and will be televised by ESPN. Rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll.
No. 18 Tennessee will open its season Aug. 30 in the Aflac Kickoff versus Syracuse (noon EDT, ABC).
Tennessee’s other nonconference matchups will be against East Tennessee State, UAB and New Mexico State at Neyland Stadium. The Vols will also host Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, while playing at Mississippi State, Alabama, Kentucky and Florida during the regular season.
Ahead of the first game in 2025, ESPN Football Power Index released win-loss records for FBS teams. Tennessee is projected for a 9.0-3.01 record.
ESPN FPI projects four schools to have a 10-win regular season in 2025.
No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Penn State are projected to have the best regular-season record. ESPN FPI projects the Longhorns and Nittany Lions to have a 10.3-2.2 record.
No. 2 Ohio State won the 2024 national championship in the first season with a 12-team College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes are projected to win 10.1 games, while losing 2.5 contests in 2025.
ESPN FPI’s fourth and final team projected to have a 10-win regular season is Boise State. The Broncos are projected for a 10.0-2.8 record.
