Florida football rolls up more than 800 yards of offense in spring game

Two years ago, after a moribund Florida football spring game on a Thursday night that ended with a 10-7 score, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin took to X to do what he normally does on social media.

Troll.

Kiffin quote tweeted the final score on Florida Gators football’s account with a burn sign, mocking UF’s (lack of) offensive output.

There was more fear of a slog-fest entering Saturday’s game at The Swamp, especially with star quarterback DJ Lagway relegated to hand off duty. But even with walk-on quarterback Aidan Warner and cast-off quarterback Harrison Bailey piloting the respective offenses, Florida moved up-and-down with regularity. The two teams combined for 70 points and 831 yards of offense as the blue team edged the orange team 38-32.

“You can see some of the young players’ flash today and certainly decent quarterback play for the most part, you know, move the ball around,” Florida football coach Billy Napier said.

No young player flashed more than Dallas Wilson, as the freshman receiver wound up with a spring-game record 10 catches for 195 yards and 2 TDs. At 6-foot-3 and 209 pounds, Wilson looks as though he’s already physically ready-made for the SEC.

“He looks the part for sure,” Bailey said. “Just seen him in one-on-ones, he plays in a very veteran kind of style the way he runs routes, very crisp, very big, physical guy, a big (catch) radius.”

A former blue-chip quarterback at Tennessee who transferred to UF from Louisville, Bailey passed for 363 yards and 3 TDs in his battle with Warner for the backup quarterback job. Warner threw for 157 yards and 2 TDs, both in the first half.

Florida’s running backs came up with big plays as well as Ja’Kobi Jackson scored on TD runs of 90, 40 and 23 yards. Jackson had 198 yards on 10 carries and 3 TDs while sophomore Jadan Baugh added 56 yards rushing and 48 yards receiving,…
