Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman on the impact of a youthful spring offensive line on the three-way battle for Irish starting quarterback job.

SOUTH BEND —Eli Raridon, senior tight end for Notre Dame football, shared a confession after Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game about this three-way battle for the starting quarterback job.

“If I were to make the decision, I wouldn’t know who to pick either,” Raridon said. “It’s definitely a hard decision for (the coaching staff).”

Redshirt freshman CJ Carr led the way statistically in the controlled scrimmage, throwing for two touchdowns and piling up 170 passing yards on a 14-of-19 showing. Carr, who threw one interception but avoided being sacked, led the offense to 17 traditional points on his four series.

He also completed a pair of downfield sideline throws on his first series, finding tight ends Kevin Bauman and Jack Larsen for gains of 23 and 24 yards, respectively.

“It was good to see that throw and catch in that critical situation,” Irish coach Marcus Freeman said, apparently thinking of the one to Bauman from the Irish 10.

Fourth-year senior Steve Angeli found freshman wideout Scrap Richardson for a 16-yard score on his fourth and final series. Angeli finished 8-of-11 passing for 108 yards and one sack.

Kenny Minchey, the third-year candidate with the most dual-threat capability, went 7-of-15 passing for 106 yards and a 4-yard touchdown run. Minchey took two sacks and finished with 11 rushing yards on six attempts.
