See what new Southern Miss football coach Charles Huff said after the Golden Eagles’ 2025 spring game on Saturday at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

HATTIESBURG — New Southern Miss football coach Charles Huff prioritized two expectations during the spring game on Saturday, April 12. He wanted all of his players to stay healthy, and to complete a thorough full-game day operation.

Huff tried replicating a game-day look at M.M. Roberts Stadium by having players go through team meetings, stay at hotels and have pregame meals together to prepare for the 2025 season. He said that creating a team bond is necessary, what with so many transfers and new faces on the roster.

Better yet, Huff reported there were no injuries in a game that ended in a 7-7 tie.

“There’s a lot that goes into just going out there and playing,” said Huff, who was hired from Marshall after the Thundering Herd won the Sun Belt conference championship. “We got an opportunity today with the spring game to kind of put some of those things in place. So now, when we get to August, we’re not spending time on what does this meeting mean?

“You’ve got to kind of walk through some of these things. It sounds very simple and very simplistic, but it’s not. It’s all new.”

Southern Miss’ wide receivers boost offense

While the Golden Eagles’ run game was utilized Saturday, its passing game is what drove the ball downfield. Senior wideout Bralon Brown hauled in six catches, including a 5-yard touchdown pass.

Senior receiver Davis Dalton, on the other side, recorded the game’s first score after catching a 5-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone.

Dalton said after the game that new routes and schemes this team is creating are already looking more complete than past teams he has played for at Southern…
