OU football announces signing of former Cal running back Jaydn Ott

NORMAN — OU football announced on social media it has signed former Cal running back Jaydn Ott.

Ott entered the portal Monday following a 385-yard, four-touchdown junior season as a Bear. “Welcome home,” the post read. Ott announced in December he planned to return to Cal for his senior season.

During his freshman year in Berkeley, Ott showed his potential by debuting with 897 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. As a sophomore, Ott was an All-Pac-12 first-team selection after he rushed for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns. An ankle injury in the Bears’ season opener limited his productivity this past season. He helped Cal to 16 wins over his three seasons, two more than the previous three seasons combined.

Despite a disappointing 6-7 campaign last year, the Sooners continue to add talent under coach Brent Venables.

OU has added former Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula and now Ott. During the winter portal, the Sooners acquired Washington State quarterback John Mateer, who surely will benefit from having Ott in the backfield in 2025.

Ott has one season of eligibility remaining.

OU has depth at running back with Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, Gavin Sawchuk and Taylor Tatum. It was reported Tuesday that Sam Franklin plans to enter the transfer portal.

The spring portal window lasts from April 16-25.
