OU football lands former Stanford OL Jake Maikkula in transfer portal

NORMAN  — OU football has landed its first transfer portal addition this spring.

Following his two-day official visit a few weeks ago, Stanford transfer offensive lineman Jake Maikkula announced his commitment to the Sooners. Maikkula chose OU over UCLA.

At 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Maikkula appeared in all 12 games last season at multiple positions on the line, making 11 starts for the Cardinal. The thought is Maikkula could add some much-needed veteran depth for OU in the interior and potentially start.

The Sedalia, Colorado, native, who entered the portal after Stanford coach Troy Taylor was fired, has two years of eligibility remaining.

Maikkula was the highest-graded offensive lineman with at least seven games played in pass blocking last season, per Pro Football Focus.

The Sooners have lost tight end Davon Mitchell, defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald and running back Sam Franklin to the transfer portal.

The spring portal window lasts from April 16-25.
