Arch Manning on learning from Quinn Ewers to be Texas Longhorns QB
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning spoke about his relationship with Quinn Ewers and all the media craze he’s received since being at Texas.
Texas football kicker Bert Auburn intends to enter the transfer portal, he announced via social media Thursday night.
Auburn served as the Longhorns’ primary kicker for the last three seasons. He made 66 of the 86 field goals and all 178 of the extra points he attempted with Texas.
His Texas career hit its high-water mark in 2023, when he converted on 29 of his 35 field-goal attempts and was named first-team All-Big 12. But Auburn struggled in 2024, posting a career-low 64% success rate on field goals. He missed two field goals in the SEC Championship Game, which Texas lost to Georgia in overtime. He also missed two field goals in the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal win over Arizona State.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian turned place-kicking duties over to Will Stone for the Longhorns’ CFP semifinal game against Ohio State.
Asked Monday whether the Longhorns’ kicking competition was open, Sarkisian said he needed to see more to know what direction he would head in.
“We haven’t done enough yet,” he said. “I think we’ll start to really ramp it up here Wednesday. We’ve done some, but we’ve really got to start to ramp this thing up to get a real gauge on what it looks like.”
Auburn’s departure leaves Stone as the Longhorns’ lone scholarship kicker. Stone, entering his fourth campaign with the Longhorns, has never attempted a field goal for Texas. He has served primarily as Texas’ kickoff specialist.
