Stanton football coach Ryan Carter resigns, Bailey Skinner promoted

Florida high school football: Parker Sirdevan’s Fleming Island kick

Parker Sirdevan made the game-winning field goal for Fleming Island with 0:04 left to defeat Ponte Vedra in high school football.

Stanton promoted Bailey Skinner as interim head football coach, following Ryan Carter’s resignation after one season, the latest coaching move in Jacksonville’s offseason as spring football nears.

Athletic director Chris Crider confirmed Carter’s resignation and Skinner’s promotion to the Times-Union.

Carter, a Stanton alumnus who played defensive back at the school in the early 2010s and later went on to college football at NCAA Division II LaGrange College in Georgia, led the Blue Devils to a 4-6 record in his one year at the helm. Hired in January 2024, he had previously worked as an assistant at Mandarin.

New coach Skinner previously worked as an offensive assistant under both Carter and his predecessor, Mike Healey. A Stanton graduate in the class of 2018, Skinner played multiple positions for the Blue Devils, including quarterback, wide receiver and tight end.

An independent in football, Stanton participated in the 2024 Sunshine State Athletic Association playoffs but lost 36-24 to Interlachen.

As an academic magnet program, Stanton has fared well in several sports (cross country, soccer, swimming and diving and tennis among them) but has long struggled in football. Since resuming varsity football in 1998, the Blue Devils have only finished above .500 once, in 2017, and have never qualified for the Florida High School Athletic Association regional playoffs in the sport.

Stanton is scheduled to compete in the SSAA again for football again in 2025. The FHSAA spring football practice window opens on April 28, and the Blue Devils are scheduled to serve as hosts for a May 15 jamboree against Ribault and Ridgeview.
