Former Jackson State football star quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been picked after falling out of the first two days of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders was chosen by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 144 pick in the fifth round on April 26. Sanders played two seasons with the Tigers for his dad and coach Deion Sanders in 2021 and 2022. He then followed his father to Colorado and played the last two seasons there.
Sanders joins Travis Hunter as the second ex-Jackson State player to be picked in the first round of the 2025 draft.

Sanders played at a high level in all four of his college seasons. He was named to an All-SWAC team in each of his two seasons at Jackson State and won SWAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. The Tigers went 23-3 with Sanders as the starting quarterback in college and reached two Celebration Bowls.
Sanders won PAC-12 Newcomer of the Year and was an All-PAC 12 honorable mention in his first season at Colorado. Last season, he was Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and an All-Big 12 First Team selection.
Sanders holds Jackson State single-season records for touchdown passes, completions and completion percentage.

Scouts note Sanders’ polished mechanics, rhythmic passing and confidence as strengths. They are skeptical of his athleticism, arm strength and pocket presence. Sanders has never played football without his father as a coach.
Some of his top performances at Jackson State were his 438 passing yards against Mississippi Valley State and his four passing touchdowns against Southern.
At Colorado, Sanders had seven games with at least four passing touchdowns and four games with at least 400 passing yards….
