Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is earning major praise as the 2025 season approaches, with ESPN analyst Greg McElroy naming him the best quarterback in college football.
On his Always College Football show, McElroy unveiled his top 10 quarterbacks entering the year and placed Klubnik in the No. 1 spot, citing not only production but growth and resilience.
“I thought last year he did an amazing job,” McElroy said. “Threw for 3,600 yards, 36 touchdowns against six interceptions, 63 percent completion. He went for 463 yards on the ground, including seven rushing touchdowns.”
Klubnik, now a senior, is coming off a breakout 2024 season. He threw for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns while completing 63.4 percent of his passes and tossing just six interceptions. On the ground, he added 463 rushing yards and seven scores. Among all quarterbacks last season, only two surpassed 3,500 passing yards and 400 rushing yards — Klubnik being one of them.
He also finished second in the country in total touchdowns (43) and third in passing scores. His 13 deep-ball touchdowns led the nation, and among quarterbacks with at least 28 passing TDs, only one had fewer interceptions.
“He improved his touchdowns thrown by 17,” McElroy added. “He can beat you in a lot of different ways.”
After a challenging first year as Clemson’s full-time starter in 2023, Klubnik rebounded in 2024 with one of the best campaigns in the country. That growth, according to McElroy, is just as important as his stats.
“I don’t just believe in his ability. I believe in his mental toughness,” McElroy said. “When you are the golden goose and you get criticized and you live to tell the tale… that’s a guy who I want on my team.”
