USC football has to re-earn the trust and respect of national analysts

USC football is receiving a lot of skepticism from national commentators and pundits

On Saturday, USC officially wrapped up its 2025 spring practice. The Trojans will now have some time off for finals before getting into summer workouts.

With spring ball wrapping up around the country, college football analyst Andy Staples of On3 Sports recently released his post-spring top 25. While seven Big Ten schools made the list, USC was not one of them. However, six of the Trojans’ 2025 opponents were in the rankings: No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 6 Oregon, No. 9 Illinois, No. 17 Michigan, and No. 25 Iowa.

Obviously, the start of the season is still several months away. But right now, the national consensus is that USC’s roster is not currently worthy of being a playoff contender.

Chad Bowden and Lincoln Riley have done a great job putting together an elite 2026 recruiting class. However, those players will not be suiting up in Cardinal and Gold this fall. If the Trojans want to have any chance of having a special season in 2025, they will likely need to be aggressive in the transfer portal this spring.
