Arch Manning on learning from Quinn Ewers to be Texas Longhorns QB
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning spoke about his relationship with Quinn Ewers and all the media craze he’s received since being at Texas.
According to multiple reports, Texas football added some needed experience to its quarterbacks room on Sunday with the portal addition of Troy quarterback Matthew Caldwell, who will begin his fifth collegiate season this fall.
The 6-foot-4, 212-pound Caldwell, an Alabama native, has already played for three teams in his career, including Jackson State and Gardner-Webb before the 2024 season at Troy. With 485 career pass attempts, he has almost five times as many career passes as the rest of the UT quarterbacks room.
Redshirt sophomore Arch Manning, the heir to the starting job, has 95 pass attempts in his career while redshirt freshman Trey Owens has four. Freshman KJ Lacey Jr. and walk-on senior Joe Tatum have not attempted a pass.
Caldwell completed 141 of 223 passes for 1,608 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions while starting six games last season at Troy, ran for five touchdowns and even hauled in a 29-yard pass. He earned the Sun Belt’s offensive player of the week honor after throwing for 288 yards and two touchdowns without an interception and rushing for two more touchdowns in a 28-20 win over Georgia Southern.
Manning, the nation’s top recruit in 2023, will enter his first full season as a starter after taking over for Quinn Ewers, who helped Texas reach back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals before being a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the NFL draft.
