Two-sport standout Yannone transfers to Dunmore – Scranton Times-Tribune

Weston Yannone spent most of his first day in a new school settling his nerves and getting to know his new classmates.

Soon, the All-Region defensive back and dual-threat quarterback will begin workouts with the Dunmore Bucks after his family relocated to the borough from Susquehanna.

Last season, the 6-foot, 180-pound Yannone had two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, with one returned 84 yards for a touchdown. He also had four games with at least five tackles, and on offense contributed 1,257 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns and had 592 yards passing and eight touchdowns.

“Looking back at Susquehanna, I loved it there,” Yannone said. “I grew up there and played all kinds of sports with all of my friends. It is a very important place for me. I have family and friends there, and I will catch a few of their games and track meets to support them.

“I am super excited and looking toward the future. Dunmore is a great school with a great football program. I met a lot of new people on my first day, and I just know that it is a place where I am going to grow as a person.”

He finished his career with Susquehanna by leading the boys’ track program to a second straight Lackawanna Track Conference Division IV championship, and he competed at the 69th Jordan Relays.

Yannone had an outstanding sophomore season where he set the Susquehanna school record for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44 seconds and had the top time for the 300 hurdles (41.84) for Division IV. He also has the school record of 11.14 seconds from last season.
