The Oklahoma Sooners received some hardware when the SEC softball awards were announced in their first season in the conference.
OU coach Patty Gasso was named SEC Coach of the Year on Friday, while pitcher Sam Landry was named SEC Newcomer of the Year.
Gasso, an eight-time national champion, was named Big 12 Coach of the Year 15 times. She helped lead OU to a 43-7 regular season record and the SEC regular season title this season.
Landry, a senior in her first season with the Sooners after transferring from Louisiana, finished the regular season with a 2.10 ERA. She was also an SEC All-First Team selection and an SEC All-Defensive Team selection.
Landry struck out 147 batters this season. She pitched a one-hit complete game in OU’s 4-1 victory against No. LSU Thursday in the SEC Tournament.
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas and Kasidi Pickering were named to the first team, Gabbie Garcia was named to the second team and Ailana Agbayani and Garcia were named to the defensive team.
