Miami Hurricanes land Rutgers transfer Mohamed Toure

The Miami Hurricanes added more depth to their linebacker room on Friday, landing Rutgers transfer Mohamed Toure.

Toure chose the Hurricanes over offers from Indiana, UNC and Penn State. He shared the news on social media.

Toure, a New Jersey native, spent six seasons with Rutgers, but he missed two full seasons due to injury.

When Toure has been healthy, he has been a solid defensive player. He was an All-Big 10 honorable mention in 2013 after racking up 93 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He had a 76.4 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus that season.

In his career, Toure, a redshirt senior, has 168 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks and two interceptions.

Toure, who is listed at 6-2 and 235 pounds, missed all of the 2022 and 2024 seasons due to ACL tears. The Hurricanes’ team doctors screened Toure and cleared him to play, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

“It’s sad, he put so much work into getting ready for the year, but that’s the game of football, unfortunately,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said last year. “There’s things like that that happen. As a family, we’ve surrounded him, we’re supporting him, we’ll get him through the rehab and we’ll get him back and get him reaching his goals and aspirations.”

Toure, who was a two-year captain for the Scarlet Knights, has experience working with defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. Hetherman was Toure’s position coach at Rutgers in 2022 and 2023. The Hurricanes like Toure’s “alpha” personality, a source said.

Miami has added two linebacker transfers this offseason; Toure joins former N.C. State linebacker Kamal Bonner in the linebacker room.
