Indiana football gains momentum in 2026 in-state recruiting

Indiana football is rapidly gaining recruiting momentum in its own backyard.

As of this writing, the Hoosiers have landed three commitments from players in the state of Indiana’s class of 2026.

The Hoosier state is always a hotbed of recruiting for Big Ten programs, MAC programs and Notre Dame. Most of the top prospects end up committing to the Fighting Irish or leaving the state entirely for Big Ten or SEC powerhouses.

But a 2024 season that saw Indiana go 11-2, making the College Football Playoff in the process, has seemingly put the program front of mind for many of the state’s prospects in next year’s recruiting class.

The following three prospects have announced their pledge to the Hoosiers thus far:

Kasmir Hicks, 3-star CB (Decatur Central HS, Indianapolis)

Trevor Gibbs, 3-star LB (Crown Point HS, Crown Point)

Blake Smythe, 3-star DL (Franklin Community HS, Franklin)

Hicks, Gibbs and Smythe are the fifth, eighth and tenth highest-rated prospects in the state as of right now.

Indiana is currently recruiting JJ Finch, a 3-star DL out of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, with Pat Kuntz listed as his primary recruiter on 237Sports. The competition will be stiff, with the likes of Tennessee, Florida and Alabama all being interested as well.

Still, it means something that Indiana is capitalizing on positive program momentum this early in head coach Curt Cignetti’s tenure.
