ESPN ranks Gators offseason status after spring

The college football offseason so far has been mostly unremarkable for the Florida Gators, who have made some modest additions to their roster while watching some of their top players leave for the NFL.

But to be sure, it has not been crickets in Gainesville, either. Billy Napier and his staff have been working tirelessly to assemble a group of talent that will be prepared for the upcoming gauntlet next fall. The program has made changes both on and off the field, shaking things up a bit on the sideline while welcoming a robust cadre of performers through the transfer portal and as well as prep recruiting.

Before the start of the summer season, ESPN’s college football reporters Adam Rittenberg, Max Olson, Eli Lederman and Bill Connelly ranked the offseason for every Power Four program, placing Florida at No. 5 among the 16 Southeastern Conference schools.

Florida’s biggest coaching move

“Florida’s defensive staff received a mini shakeup with Austin Armstrong joining Houston in the same role,” they begin.

“Coach Billy Napier brought in Vinnie Sunseri, a rising young assistant with NFL and college experience, to replace Armstrong and work alongside veteran Ron Roberts. Deron Wilson also comes over from Arkansas to coach defensive backs.”
