Colorado football’s season opener Georgia Tech will air on ESPN

The lights just got brighter on Colorado’s season opener against Georgia Tech with the announcement the Buffaloes will open their season on ESPN.

The first ever matchup between the Buffaloes and the Yellow Jackets will kick off on Friday, Aug. 29 at 6:00 p.m. MT. This marks the third straight year Colorado’s season will start on national television, last season the Buffaloes’ contest against North Dakota State aired on ABC.

Deion Sanders has brought an unheard of amount of media attention to the program, their season opener will be a school record 14th straight game on network television or on ESPN. According to Buffaloes Athletics, 21 of the 25 games in Coach Prime’s tenure have been on ESPN or network television.

This contest will be a matchup between the 1990 National Champions, as Georgia Tech and Colorado shared the title that season. The controversy that resulted from the split title created the Bowl Coalition, which resulted in only two more split titles in the FBS.

Colorado is 18-22 all-time against ACC teams and 7-8 outside of former Pac-12 members Stanford and Cal. The Buffaloes will head to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech in 2026 to complete their home-and-home scheduling agreement.

The next two Buffaloes game times, against Delaware and Houston, will be announced in late May or early June, according to Buffaloes Athletics. The game against Georgia Tech will debut a new-look Colorado roster, without stars Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter and 41 newcomers.
