ESPN not high on Ducks’ outlook in 2025 CFP

One would think that receiving a first-round bye in the college football playoff would be an advantage. The fewer games you have to play to reach the title game, the better.

But it didn’t work out that way last season, as Ohio State played in the first round and still won the championship. The theory still rings true, however, and Oregon wants to be one of those teams receiving a bye should the Ducks make the playoffs in 2025-26.

According to ESPN, there are 10 teams that have the potential of receiving that first-round bye, and Oregon isn’t one of them. They have the likes of Boise State and BYU among those 10 possible teams, but not the Ducks.

Playing in a tough Big Ten Conference may have something to do with their reasoning. ESPN has Ohio State and Penn State, two teams likely favored to win the Big Ten, on their list. They really like Penn State.

“The Nittany Lions are ranked here as the projected Big Ten champion and selection committee’s second-highest ranked conference champion, which would earn them the No. 2 seed,” they said.

The Worldwide Leader may not have taken into account the Ducks’ schedule, which is very favorable. The only road game Oregon will be an underdog is the contest at Penn State. Other than that, the Ducks should be favored in the other 11 games.
