LSU baseball took a hard loss on Thursday night, dropping the series opener at South Carolina. LSU was hoping to handle business vs. a Gamecocks squad with five conference wins entering the day, but the LSU bullpen faltered late.
LSU’s resume was in good shape after taking two of three from Arkansas last weekend. Jay Johnson and crew have sights on a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. Losing to South Carolina isn’t something the selection committee wants to see.
The Tigers return to action on Friday night with ace Kade Anderson taking the ball and a chance to right the ship. Until then, let’s take a look at LSU’s latest RPI ranking.
LSU was at No. 7 entering the series. After game one, the Tigers rank No. 8. The loss wasn’t monumental, but LSU is right on the border of getting a chance to host a Super Regional.
Just ahead of LSU are North Carolina and Oregon State. The Tar Heels face Florida State this weekend while Oregon State faces Long Beach State. Both UNC and Oregon State won on Thursday.
