Wisconsin football recruiting offer 2027 quarterback Malachi Zeigler

Wisconsin football extended an offer to four-star class of 2027 quarterback Malachi Zeigler on Monday.

While the 2027 cycle is still a full year away from heating up, the Badgers join a loaded offer sheet that already includes Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

247Sports currently ranks Zeigler as the No. 97 overall player in the class of 2027, the No. 9 quarterback and the No. 7 recruit from his home state of Louisiana. The service has yet to release a crystal ball prediction for his commitment, though On3 lists Ole Miss as the favorite (56%) at this early stage of the cycle.

Wisconsin’s offer to the top-ranked quarterback continues the program’s momentum in recruiting the position since offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes’ arrival. It added transfers Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil during the winter transfer window, then picked up a commitment from 2026 quarterback Ryan Hopkins. Those three players followed the addition of four-star class of 2025 quarterback Carter Smith, who pledged to the program in the days following Phil Longo’s firing.

The Badgers will have significant competition for Zeigler’s commitment. The 6-foot-3 signal-caller is already one of the top recruits in the nation, let alone just at his position. If he does choose Wisconsin, he’d rival Graham Mertz (No. 65 overall in the class of 2019, No. 3 pro-style quarterback) as the program’s top-ranked all-time quarterback commit.

Wisconsin’s primary focus is still on the class of 2026. The program’s current group of seven commitments sits No. 42 nationally. Both of those numbers are set to change in the coming weeks as the official visit season heats up.
