UNC football beats out SEC program for QB commit Travis Burgess

Bill Belichick and the UNC football program land a big commitment

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels scored another recruiting win on Wednesday night, adding a key piece to the 2026 recruiting class.

High three-star quarterback Travis Burgess committed to North Carolina over SEC program Auburn and in-state rival NC State on Wednesday night. It was a surprising commitment from the Loganville, Georgia native as UNC gets another key player at the position.

With the addition of Burgess, it gives the Tar Heels some options at quarterback for the future. They just landed Gio Lopez out of the transfer portal and have four-star Bryce Baker as well. Making sure the depth is there at the position for the future is key for Belichick and the Tar Heels.

Burgess is familiar with UNC as well, attending a game during his recruitment and was even on campus twice this past offseason. He became a priority for the Tar Heels in his recruitment and with it being down to UNC, Auburn and NC State, the Tar Heels ended up winning out.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Burgess is ranked No. 501 overall, the No. 30 quarterback, and No. 59 player in the state of Georgia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. The Tar Heels now have 15 commitments in the 2026 class which ranks No. 17 nationally.
