Vanguard sends 15 football players to football program in 2025
Vanguard head coach Edwin Farmer gives a speech on national signing day as 15 players from the program sign national letters of intent
Spring football is coming to a close for Florida high school teams. With the deadline for practice approaching many teams traded scrimmages for a real flesh and blood opponent.
A youthful Vanguard team nearly shut out Eastside 14-6. Belleview earned its first win under coach Bo Hartwell with a 28-0 romp over Mount Dora Christian. West Port falls 41-13 to a physical Hudson team on the road.
In this edition of the Spring Football Notebook, we’ll explore the themes of the aforementioned three spring games. That includes the measures TJ Lewis has grown through to be a better quarterback.
Knights add to the arsenal
Vanguard’s overall youth will continue to turn heads as the fall season approaches. The spring football roster held twelve seniors and yet the talent level seems to be on par with the teams that have made second and third round playoff games in recent seasons.
At the center of all action is Lewis, who’s added a more accurate deep ball to his game after showing promise under center last season adding. Lewis flashed his arm talent at times last year, but it was his ability to make dynamic plays with his feet that made him standout. With an emphasis on the passing game and weapons like James Bethea on the outside he’ll certainly have the opportunity to work out the timing kinks we saw in spring.
Belleview is bringing smash mouth football back
The Hartwell era is off to the right start as Belleview records its first win in over two calendar years. It may not count to their record but there’s nothing like seeing a scoreboard in your favor especially when you’re up four touchdowns.
Every single score came on the ground…
