Michigan State football was beat out by a fellow Big Ten school for a priority offensive lineman prospect in the 2026 class.
James Williams Jr. of Indianapolis announced his commitment to Purdue on Monday. Williams posted on social media platform X to announce his commitment to the Boilermakers over the Spartans.
Williams Jr. held offers from Michigan State, Purdue, Appalachian State, Toledo, Ball State, Miami (OH), Kent State and Northern Illinois. It was believed that Michigan State and Purdue were the two front runners in his recruitment going into his decision, with the Boilermakers coming out on top in the recruitment.
Williams Jr. is a three-star prospect on 247Sports, and holds a rating of 87 on the recruiting site. He ranks as the No. 68 interior offensive lineman in the class and is the No. 10 player from Indiana as well.
Michigan State was scheduled to host Williams Jr. for an official visit next month. As of the time of this post, he is still listed on 247Sports to be taking that visit to Michigan State on June 20.
