UND football picks up rare Texas recruit with FBS offers including Oklahoma – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — The UND football program made a rare recruiting dive into Texas for its latest commitment of the 2026 recruiting class.

Delvin Cook Jr., a 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver from Dallas, committed to UND recently, choosing the Fighting Hawks over offers from Oklahoma, Tulsa, Miami of Ohio, Sam Houston State, Sacramento State and others.

UND, which underwent an offseason coaching change and is now led by Eric Schmidt, had just two Texas players on the spring roster and neither were recruited to Grand Forks out of high school. Defensive end Myles Terry was a Division III transfer two years ago and B.J. Fleming came to UND this last offseason from Northern Arizona.

Cook Jr. played 6A football in Texas last season, racking up 24 catches for 418 yards and five touchdowns.

Cook Jr. plans to take his recruiting visit to Grand Forks on June 20.

(The UND coaching staff) told me I’d be a perfect asset to the team. I’m excited. I feel like I made the right decision.”

Cook Jr. is UND’s 13th commitment of the 2026 class and the first from outside the traditional recruiting ground of North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois and Iowa.

He’s the second wide receiver of the 2026 class, joining Marial Deng of Tokio, N.D. — the brother of current UND…
