Colorado football 2025 season win total projection, per ESPN’s FPI

ESPN’s FPI predicts a tough 2025 season for Colorado football

We have well-documented that Colorado football faces a challenging schedule this season.

Specifically within the Big 12, where the Buffaloes face four of the conference’s top teams in ESPN’s preseason Football Power Index: No. 1 (Kansas State), No. 2 (Arizona State), No. 3 (BYU) and No. 5 (TCU). Not to mention the Buffs also have games against No. 9 (Iowa State) and No. 10 (Utah). So if you’re keeping score, that is six of the Big 12 top 10 teams.

The entire slate is the third toughest overall schedule in the Big 12 and the most daunting conference slate.

Even after a 9-3 regular season in 2024, Colorado fans should temper expectations if they anticipate a repeat performance. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter won’t be starring at Folsom Field anymore, and the schedule should be considered when talking about Colorado’s expectations.

Still, within a crowded Big 12, anything is possible. So, what should be considered a successful season for Colorado football in 2025? With so much roster turnover and a brutal Big 12 schedule, a six-win season with a bowl game might be a major win come December.

ESPN’s FPI projects Colorado’s win-loss record at 6.5-5.5. That win total analyzes how the Buffs’ rating of 4.2 (No. 49 nationally) stacks up against each opponent. The record is not a surprise considering everything mentioned above, and it is in line with our 6-6 post-spring prediction for Deion Sanders’ squad.

The quarterback competition and several other unknown starters are likely to affect these numbers, but as the season progresses, FPI will change based on each result. It is a good reminder of where Colorado stands, about two and a half months away from the season.
