ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham emphasized the importance of staying calm and focused despite their 3-0 start and historic Big 12 debut at Texas Tech.

Arizona State’s 2026 recruiting class has 16 commitments, eight of which are from Texas.ASU’s focus on Texas recruits is part of the Sun Devils’ “Texas to Tempe” campaign.

Even before Arizona State’s move to the Big 12, coach Kenny Dillingham had started establishing a presence in Texas, one of the country’s premier states when it comes to producing high school football talent.

That has never been more apparent in the school’s recruiting class of 16 athletes, eight of whom hail from the Lone Star State. The program has dubbed the developed pipeline “Texas to Tempe,” and it is featured prominently in the school’s social media campaigns.

ASU picked up two more pledges over the weekend, one of those from defensive lineman Ronald Derrick of University High School in Waco, Texas. The other was from offensive lineman Siosaia “Leni” Lapuaho, who is from Sandy, Utah, but comes to ASU from Garden City Community College in Kansas. Lapuaho fits into another demographic ASU has targeted, and that’s the Polynesian community.

ASU now has 16 verbal commitments for the 2026 cycle, and its eight athletes from Texas are as many or more than eight Big 12 opponents have for their entire recruiting class. Arizona has only six total commitments, while Colorado and Utah have only two each.

Derrick also took a trip to Northwestern and canceled planned trips to Arizona, UNLV, and Rice after making his ASU commitment, which is non-binding.
