An SEC Network camera appeared to catch Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz, in the moments before the Tigers knelt the ball out to seal a 19-point win over Mississippi State last November, telling the Bulldogs’ defense, essentially, to stop talking or he would score on them again. We’re paraphrasing the way that message appeared to be phrased.

That about sums up how the Bulldogs’ season went: A 2-10 campaign, a 0-8 mark in SEC play, and a widely uncompetitive first year for head coach Jeff Lebby’s squad.

Mississippi State makes the return trip to Columbia this upcoming season, which is now less than 80 days away from kicking off. Has the situation improved in Starkville, or are the Bulldogs in for another slog of a season?

Lebby appears to like Shapen as his starter, but if the Bulldogs begin to cast an eye toward the future, there’s a chance for change by their Columbia visit in mid-November.
