Texas A&M’s future at quarterback is never set in today’s transfer portal era, but for right now, redshirt sophomore Marcel Reed is the program’s starter heading into the 2025 season, but nothing is guaranteed from there on out.
After trading starts with Conner Weigman, who transferred to Houston this offseason, Reed’s ability to make plays out of the structure with his legs holds a stark advantage. Still, he’ll need to improve from the pocket as a decision-maker to vault the Aggies into the College Football Playoff conversation.
Right now, Texas A&M’s QB Future lies in the hands of sophomores Myles O’Neill and 2026 four-star Helaman Casuga, who were high school teammates with 2025 five-star WR signee Jerome Myles. Still, coach Mike Elko and his staff are looking to add another arm to the 2026 class to join Casuga, as a talented name has emerged as a new favorite to land with the Aggies over Colorado.
On Wednesday, On3 Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong placed his prediction for Texas A&M to land 2026 three-star quarterback Kaeden Johnson out of Fort Bend Marshall HS in Missouri City, Texas, home of former standout Aggie running back De’Von Achane, who stands out at 6’5″ and 215 pounds.
During his 2024 junior season, Johnson passed for 2,109 yards and 25 touchdowns while completing 60% of his passes and rushing for 571 yards and six touchdowns.
