Oregon football coach Dan Lanning talks after spring game
Oregon football coach Dan Lanning speaks after the Ducks’ annual spring game at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.
Though Oregon football is months away from playing its first game against Montana State in August, one ESPN metric already is predicting the Ducks have as good a chance as any to reach the College Football Playoff for the second straight season.
The Ducks, per ESPN’s College Football Power Index, have a 57.5% chance to be one of the 12 team’s represented in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff season, the sixth-best odds in the country. Texas (83.9%), Georgia (78.6%), Ohio State (70.6%), Alabama (66.2%) and Penn State (63.8%) are the only programs with better chances.
Oregon also has a 4.3% chance to win a national championship, which also ranks sixth in the same order as the programs above. The metric gives Texas a 24.1% chance to win a national title.
Of the 12 teams with the best odds to make the College Football Playoff, three are from the Big Ten: Ohio State, Penn State and Oregon. Michigan ranks 14th (25.3%) and USC (21%), Nebraska (10.3%), Indiana (8.9%) and Washington (8.1%) all rank outside the top 20.
ESPN’s FPI set the Ducks’ projected win total at 10, which ranks fifth behind Texas, Ohio State, Penn State and Georgia.
Oregon will open Dan Lanning’s fourth season at Autzen Stadium Aug. 30 against Montana State.
