Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class is inching toward the end of the year as the No. 1-ranked class for the second time since the 2022 offseason, but this time, it feels different.
Under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, the Aggies’ 2022 cycle is still considered historic to this day, but given the lack of success on the field, including ending the 2022 season at 5-7, the program has yet to live down what is now considered a massive embarrassment.
However, despite ending the 2024 season with an 8-5 record after starting 7-1, second-year head coach Mike Elko and his impressive coaching staff have continued Fisher’s success on the recruiting trail, but in today’s NIL age, especially after the House vs. NCAA settlement, relationships are everything, and the staff have developed strong bonds with all 17 of the program’s 2026 commits.
On Tuesday, the Aggies’ cycle made a huge jump in the recruiting rankings after Texas A&M landed elite four-star running back KJ Edwards, one of the fastest and college-ready backs in the cycle who chose A&M over the Texas Longhorns after his official visit to College Station last weekend.
With Edwards’ commitment, Texas A&M’s 2026 cycle rose four spots from No. 6 to No. 2 in the rankings and is only contending with No. 1 USC and the Trojan’s 29 commits. With several commitments slated for next month, led by five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, the No. 1 ranking is still clearly in sight.
