UNC football secures Class of 2026 commitment from TE Aveon Williams

Let’s welcome this Class of 2026 tight end to the Carolina Family.

The offseason football excitement continues to build in Chapel Hill – and a huge part in that excitement is UNC’s new head football coach, Bill Belichick.

Since the Tar Heels hired Belichick in December, recruiting is taking off. North Carolina quietly compiled one of the top 2025 transfer portal classes, highlighted by names like quarterback Gio Lopez and linebacker Mikal Gbayor, while North Carolina’s 2026 high school recruiting class is Top-25 nationally.

Speaking of UNC’s 2026 class, recruits continue to commit left-and-right. The Tar Heels’ latest addition to their 2026 class is tight end Aveon Williams, who also doubles up as a basketball star.

Williams, ranked the Class of 2026’s 22nd overall prospect from Arizona, committed to North Carolina over the likes of Oregon and Arizona. Belichick and the entire UNC program made a strong enough impression on Williams that, according to InsideCarolina, he committed before his official visit concluded over the weekend.

With Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver off to the NFL, Williams’ commitment comes at a perfect time. The Tar Heels will roll with Jake Johnson and Connor Cox in the tight end room this fall, but neither pass-catcher has TE1 numbers at previous stops.

Williams knows how to catch and score the football with ease, catching just 36 passes for 771 yards and 11 touchdowns during Fall 2024. Granted, he’ll face tougher defenses at UNC, but Williams’ numbers clear any UNC pass-catcher during the 2024 season (J.J. Jones led the team with 582 receiving yards and six TDs).
