Coyotes add linebackers coach Will Finley to round out football staff – Mitchell Republic

VERMILLION, S.D. — The final piece of Travis Johansen’s football staff for 2025 is in place, as Will Finley was announced as the new University of South Dakota linebackers coach on Tuesday.

Finley previously served in the same position for two seasons at Lindenwood University (Mo.), another Division I Football Championship Subdivision institution from the Ohio Valley Conference.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to join the Coyote family. I would like to thank Coach Johansen and Coach (Billy) Kirch for giving me the opportunity to lead the linebackers,” Finley said in a press release. “I believe in the vision Coach Johansen has set and look forward to building upon that.”

Lindenwood University Athletics

During his stint at Lindenwood, Finley coached first-team all-Big South/Ohio Valley Conference performer Vincent King and helped lead the program to its first-ever FCS top-10 win over then-No. 6-ranked Southeast Missouri State.

Prior to his time at Lindenwood, Finley was the head football coach at NAIA Waldorf University (Iowa) from 2020-22, where he also oversaw the defense and worked with the linebackers. He compiled a 20-10 record in his three seasons leading the program and led the Warriors to their highest-ever national ranking at No. 22 during his last season.
