Before quarterback Kaidon Salter has even won the quarterback battle with the Colorado Buffaloes, he has been named to his first preseason watch list.
On Monday, the Walter Camp Football Foundation released its watch list for the 2025 Walter Camp Award, and Salter was among the 45 players and 21 quarterbacks. The Walter Camp Trophy is given to the nation’s most outstanding college football player annually.
Salter transferred from Liberty, where he established himself as a dual-threat playmaker. In four seasons with the Flames, he threw for 5,887 yards and 56 touchdowns while rushing for 2,063 yards and 21 touchdowns. His best season was in 2023, when he led Liberty to an undefeated season while tallying 2,876 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also racked up 12 touchdowns to accompany his 1,089 yards on the ground, earning him Conference USA MVP honors.
He committed to the Buffaloes in December of 2024 and now looks to come in and replicate his 2023 season, but not before battling for the job with former five-star freshman Julian Lewis.
Last season, Travis Hunter, Colorado’s former two-way star, was the 2024 Walter Camp Award winner. He was the second player in program history to win the award, after Rashaan Salaam, who won in 1994.
The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in November and then down to three finalists in December.
