Four-star offensive lineman picks SMU over LSU football

LSU football missed on another blue-chip recruit in the 2026 class. Offensive lineman Drew Evers committed to SMU, according to a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Thursday.

Evers picked the Mustangs over a host of Power Four offers. Ohio State, LSU, Penn State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma were part of his top six but he opted to stay in his home state.

The Flower Mound, TX native ranks No. 51 out of Texas and No. 28 among interior offensive linemen, per 247Sports. On3’s Industry Rankings rank him No. 17 at his position as a four-star prospect.

Evers’ decision follows quarterback Bryson Beaver, who received an offer from LSU but announced his commitment to Oregon on Wednesday. The Tigers also lost out on top-10 passer Bowe Bentley, who chose the Sooners last week.

After starting the 2026 cycle strong, LSU fell out of the national top-10 for most recruiting outlets. The Tigers rank fifth among SEC teams in 247 Sports’ list, despite being made up of 90% blue-chippers.
