On October 29, 1994, Penn State football hosted Ohio State at Beaver Stadium for the first time as a Big Ten member. The Nittany Lions were coming off a bye week after defeating Michigan in the Big House to ascend to No. 1 in the polls.
Penn State’s high-flying offense destroyed the Buckeyes’ defense all day to the tune of 63 points in a blowout 63-14 win, the Nittany Lions’ largest margin of victory in the series. At the time, Ohio State had not given up more than 60 points in 92 years.
Ki-Jana Carter scored four touchdowns and Kerry Collins threw for two more. Bobby Engram recorded 102 receiving yards and an incredible one-handed catch in the second quarter. Penn State put up 367 yards of offense in the first half alone to race out to a 35-0 halftime lead. Ohio State finally put up some fight in the second half but came no closer than a 28-point deficit, and the Lions cruised to a shockingly decisive 63-14 victory:
Penn State put up exactly 286 rushing yards and 286 passing yards in the game, a testament to the balance of one of the greatest offenses in college football history.
Despite the win, Penn State fell to No. 2 in the polls after Nebraska beat No. 3 Colorado on the same day, and the Nittany Lions remained at No. 2 for the rest of the season.
