College football is still several weeks away as Ohio State looks to defends its title, but the big bets are already starting to fly in for the upcoming season.
One bettor at the BetMGM sportsbook at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, wagered $615,000 across three college football futures bets — all on teams to win the College Football Playoff. The bets were made June 24.

The first was a $300,000 wager on the Texas Longhorns to win the CFP at +500 odds that would win $1.5 million. The Longhorns, led by Heisman Trophy favorite QB Arch Manning, are currently the co-favorites with Ohio State to win the national championship at BetMGM. Last season, Texas made it to the expanded College Football Playoff as the five seed, beating No. 12 Clemson 38-24 in the first round and No. 4 Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime in the quarterfinal, before losing 28-14 to No. 8 Ohio State in the semifinal at the Cotton Bowl.
The second was a $200,000 bet on the Penn State Nittany Lions to win it all at +750 odds, which would also win $1.5 million. Penn State, led by returning QB Drew Allar (14-1 to win the Heisman), made the CFP as a six seed last season, beating No. 11 SMU 38-10 and No. 3 Boise State 31-14 before falling to No. 7 Notre Dame 27-24 in the CFP semifinal at the Orange Bowl. Penn State, now at +800, has its best odds to win the national championship since at least 2001, according to Sports Odds History.
The final wager was a $115,000 bet on the Clemson Tigers to win the CFP at 13-1 odds, which would win $1.495 million. Clemson made the playoff last season as a 12 seed, but lost in the first round to Texas. Head coach Dabo Sweeney has won at least nine games in every season since 2011 at Clemson. Clemson opens its season Aug. 30 against LSU.
